Check the DetailsLast year, Opentrons and iGEM announced an unprecedented collaboration to bring the power of low-cost, open source automation to Be introduced to the iGEM team shaping the future of biology and engineering. The response to this collaboration was huge – we received applications from 77 teams from 26 countries working on plastic degradation from /a>, Carbon Sequestration to DNA Data Storage and Strain Engineering and other projects with grand vision.
After the great success of the teams that were awarded automated pipetting platforms in last year’s competition, we are pleased to announce that we will continue to offer automated pipetting platforms for the 2019 competition seasonKeep it working! This year,Opentrons will once again select 10 iGEM teams to give away an OT-2 automated pipetting platform and a set of very useful accessories for free! Additionally, all 2019 iGEM teams will be eligible to participate in discounts and promotions for the competition.
iGEM teams involved in interlaboratory measurement studies are pioneers in reproducible experiments, setting a higher standard for reproducibility for all types of life science laboratories, iGEM teams, and synthetic biology professionals. Improving scientific reproducibility is also part of Opentrons' core mission. We firmly believe that replicating experimental results should be as easy as downloading a protocol and running it on a robot. That's why Opentrons' partnership with iGEM is a perfect fit -Together we can encourage new engagement models to drive innovation in more powerful, shareable methods.
The iGEM team we selected will have access to our OT-2 automated pipetting platform, Protocol Design Tools and modules to create and run various protocols such as assembly, transformation, ligation, digestion, plasmid purification, etc. By collaborating on these common synthetic biology methods, they will be able to validate our idea that reproducibility between laboratories can be improved by conducting experiments on a common automated platform.
The data generated by these teams and the protocols and open source integrations they produce will have an important impact on the broader scientific community and provide valuable information for Opentrons' future product roadmap. .
Opentrons's mission is to make the power and repeatability of automation technology available to every laboratory. Our latest product is the most cost-effective high-precision automated laboratory pipetting platform in history: OT-2.
Through our easy-to-use hardware and open source software and protocol design tools, Opentrons enables scientists (and students) to collaborate more and more easily Replicate each other’s experimental results and find biotech solutions faster to the world’s most pressing problems. We are committed to making biological research more open and reproducible, leveraging Community repository that gives the power of reproducibility.
We partnered with the Genspace iGEM team at the 2014 iGEM Jamboree to launch our first-generation robot, OT-1. In 2018, we provided 10 automated pipetting platforms to support 10 iGEM teams around the world projects and enable them to solve local problems. We are very excited to be partnering with the iGEM Foundation again to provide their student leadership team with a laboratory automated pipetting platform in 2019!
iGEM (Genetically Engineered Machines International) Foundation is a non-profit organization unique in the field of synthetic biology. Through education and competitions, and the creation of open communities, iGEM continues to advance the field and collaborate with industry to develop the workforce of the future. At its core, iGEM is about empowering people around the world to solve local problems.
iGEM's annual student competition is the world's leading innovative program in synthetic biology and the cradle of developing the industry's most successful leaders. Each year, more than 6,000 people from more than 40 countries come together to push the boundaries of biology as a technology while challenging teams to create projects that are safe, responsible and good for the world. In addition to the competition, the post-iGEM program offers numerous opportunities to inspire, support and inspire the more than 40,000 iGEMers who are leading synthetic biology globally and working towards building a strong, responsible and visionary synthetic biology industry .
