Opentrons Labworks and Swift Bioscience launch “plug-and-play” NGS library preparation automation workstation

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Opentrons Labworks, Inc. ("Opentrons") and

Swift Biosciences Inc. (“Swift”) announces the launch of the most affordable fully automated workstation preparation for next-generation sequencing (NGS) libraries on the market. The companies will launch the product at the Laboratory Automation and Screening Society conference (SLAS2020) in San Diego, California, from January 25 to 29.

At a total cost of less than $15,755, biologists get everything they need from double-stranded DNA to ready-to-sequence NGS libraries in a single, fully automated run for less than $30 per sample. Complete workstation includes Opentrons OT-2 laboratory robot with on-deck magnetic module, temperature module and thermal cycler, as well as Swift 2S Turbo DNA Library Kit and Omega Bio-tek MagBind TotalPure NGS Cleanup beads, and all necessary labware and consumables for 100 samples. The validated protocol is available for free download at opentrons.com.

"Our goal has always been to make complex biotech tools more accessible to more people. That means fully automated genomic workstations are not only affordable, but also extremely powerful and easy to use," said Will, co-founder and chief product officer of Opentrons. · Kanion. “With this workstation, laboratories can save 6 or more hours of hands-on time for each batch of NGS libraries they produce.”

This announcement follows the launch of a fully automated deck thermal cycler by Opentrons in Q4 2019. This new module enables biologists to keep amplification steps on the robot during NGS library preparation protocols, rather than requiring them to move samples to an off-deck PCR machine. This eliminates the human intervention step, eliminating the opportunity for error while giving scientists more hands-off time.

"At Swift, we are focused on high-quality library preparation workflows and have found a capable automation partner in Opentrons," said Mida Pezeshkian, senior product manager at Swift. "Together we offer a turnkey solution that includes Run pre-written liquid handling programs with Swift reagents at a price point compatible with most labs’ budgets.”
